Using the Remote Control Device to control a Powerpoint slideshow presentation:
An infrared receiver (IR) is now available to use with the computer/proxima in Room 108. This device attaches to the serial port on the back of the computer. It allows you to use the same remote control you use with the proxima to move forward or backward in a slide show presentation. The range for the IR is about 30 feet.
When you get the remote control device from the front office you will also have to check out the IR device. You must attach the IR to the serial port on the back of the computer. The serial port is marked with a label "IR". Once you have attached the IR to the computer, place the box in a convenient position to receive signals from the remote control. Turn the computer on and the Proxima on as you normally would.
To use the remote control, do the following:
1. From the Start menu, select Programs, then IRAssistant, and click on
the IRAssistant item. Press
2. When the IRAssistant Settings window displays, make sure the button at the bottom of the window says "Stop", then minimize the window. If the button says "Activate", click on the button to initialize the IR. When the button says "Stop", minimize the wi ndow.
3. Start the Powerpoint program and open your slide show presentation as usual.
4. When you wish to move to the next slide, point the remote control at the IR and press the ">>" button.
5. If you wish to move to a previous slide, point the remote control at the IR and press the "<<" button.
That's all there is to it!
6. At the end of class, turn off the proxima and the computer and then disconnect the IR. Return the IR and the remote control to the front office.
