How to download a class roster from neo into MS Excel:
1. Login to neo account with your neo user id and password
2. Look on the left of the main screen, below "Options" heading.
3. Select Class roster option by clicking on it
4. You will see a screen in which you can select a semester. Select 2003A
for spring semester 2003 by clicking on it.
5. Select Class/Section desired from the list of courses you teach.
6. Now you will see a screen with "Smith, Sue G.", "123456789", "BICH",
"UG2" and so on
7. Select all the roster text by clicking and dragging mouse over it and
copy it (use control c or you can right click and select copy).
8. Open any text editor (Notepad or simple text (Mac) or MS Word)
9. Paste the text copied in step 7 into the text editor.
10. IMPORTANT: Save the file in plain text format.
11. Close the text editor.
12. Open Microsoft Excel.
13. Now choose "open..." from the "File" menu. You will see a dialog box.
Choose "all files" in the type-of-files drop-down box. Browse to the plain
text file that you saved (as in step 10), and open it.
14. When you do this a text import wizard automatically opens and you can
see a screen having options like "Delimited" and "fixed width" on the
screen.
15. Choose delimited (click on radio button beside delimited) and click on
"Next" button.
16. The next screen that appears asks for the type of delimiter to be used.
Choose your delimiter as comma and click on "Next button.
17. Select the Student ID Column by clicking mouse on it. Change its
column data format to "text" by clicking on the radio button beside "text"
on top right corner of your screen. Click on "finish" button.
18. Now you can see the data in the text file in your excel workbook.
Remember it is IMPORTANT to save this excel file as excel workbook (This is
done by choosing the file format on the save screen as excel workbook).
19. Double click to automatically adjust cells width if you wnat to.
20. This completes the entire procedure for downloading a class roster from
neo into MS Excel.
