Claiming A&M campuswide computing resources through CLAIM 3/3/99

You will need to enter A&M's CLAIM system and claim the
desired resource. (modems, vms, unix, xprint, for example)

By some method, which depends on the kind of computer connection, get yourself
to the ATM screen. (You may need to ask someone for help with this step.)

1. At the ATM screen, type CLAIM
2. In the first CLAIM screen, enter your social security number

(in CLAIM it is VERY Important to pay close attention to where the
cursor is, to move from field to field with the tab key, and only
press return when all the fields on the screen are filled in as you
intend.)

3. If you have been in access before, it will ask you for the password
you set previously. (If you have NOT been into CLAIM before, click here
for extra instructions.)

(after getting thru the password stuff, you will see a menu...)

4. Choose logon id subsys (1)

(you will see another menu)

5. Choose select computer system... (3)

(a) specify a logon id (previously created or suggested by the system)

at this point you can mark one or more resources that you want to use.

(b) mark MODEMS and/or VMS and/or UNIX with an X

(c) press according to the screen instructions, and follow the
    screen directions.

i. If you mark MODEMS,
and you want your modem password to be the same as your CLAIM password, hit enter twice. To have a modem password different from your CLAIM password, type in the desired modem password. The password and logon id that you have specified at this step are what you have to use for your modem access.

ii. If you mark VMS,
and you want your ACS password to be the same as your CLAIM password, hit enter twice. To have an ACS password different from your CLAIM password, type in the desired ACS password. The password and logon id that you have specified at this step are what you have to use for your ACS access.

iii. If you mark UNIX,
and you want your UNIX password to be the same as your CLAIM password, hit enter twice. To have a UNIX password different from your CLAIM password, type in the desired UNIX password. The password and logon id that you have specified at this step are what you have to use for your UNIX access.

6. Exit from CLAIM by entering E in the top right corner next to COMMAND

7. Lastly, Hey!! What was the password you used in 3.? Review new passwords.

If you need more information or help, you are welcome to come to my office
342 and we can go through this procedure from there. (CLAIM is not a
user-friendly system.) In my absence, you might ask for help in the
bio=bio computing center on the first floor.

If you have not been into CLAIM before, it will ask for other info
(name, birthdate) and then have you set a password.
REMEMBER the password you set here!!!!
After you set your main CLAIM password, you will have to establish
a logon id (usually your initials + the last 4 digits of your SSN).

     To establish your logon id,
Choose Logon id subsys (1)
     then, from the next menu
Choose Create logon id ... (1)
     (you will see another screen)
A suggested logon id will be presented, but you may have the option
to change it. Follow the screen instructions to accept the one
shown or to change it. When you finish, you should be back at the
screen titled "TAMU logon id subsystem". Click here to go back to
your next step after creating your logon id.
